The Town of
Gananoques Downtown Revitalization Project is being completed in partnership
with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs.
A committee
composed of local merchants; a member of Council and municipal staff was
created in January 2007 to lead this revitalization effort.
This
revitalization project will provide an extremely detailed strategy to guide the
Town through a process of realizing its' true potential as one of Eastern
Ontarios premier destinations.
The
revitalization process addresses several key areas of the commercial core:
Strengthening local business and encouraging investment through building and
property owners.
Enhancing public areas, encouraging local events and activities to take place
within the commercial core.
Working to provide employment and residential opportunities that fit with the
needs of our local population.
This
downtown revitalization project is utilizing the Main Street Approach as the
foundation for its recommendations. This approach is based on four key pillars:
Physical
Improvement - Address
the restoration of historic facades, streetscape, parking and the creation of a
safe, walkable environment.
Economic
Development - Assist existing
merchants target specific market segments in their trade area or identifying
possible new businesses that compliment the existing business mix.
Marketing
and Promotions - To ensure
that the identity and positive image of the downtown is communicated and that
events and activities animate the area.
Organizational
Development - To ensure
that the revitalization process continues and volunteers are celebrated and
renewed.
