 NOTICE OF NOMINATION FOR OFFICE
Municipal Elections Act, 1996 (s32) Notice is hereby given to the Municipal Electors of The Town of Gananoque Nominations in the Town of Gananoque for the offices of: Mayor (1) Six (6) Councillors to be Elected At Large may be made by completing and filing in the office of the Clerk, nominations on the prescribed form and accompanied by the prescribed nomination filing fee of $200.00 for the Head of Council and $100.00 for all other offices. The filing fee is payable by cash, certified cheque or money order. A nomination must be signed by the candidate and may be filed in person or by an agent during regular business hours between January 4, 2010, and September 9, 2010, and between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on September 10, 2010 (Nomination Day). In the event there are an insufficient number of certified candidates to fill all positions available, nominations will be reopened for the vacant positions only on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and such additional nominations, if required, may be filed in the office of the Clerk. Electors are hereby given notice that if a greater number of candidates are certified than are required to fill the said offices, voting places (as yet to be determined) will be opened on the dates stated below for the purpose of voting: Advance Vote: October 16, 2010 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Voting Day: Monday, October 25, 2010 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Nomination Papers and additional information are available at the Town Hall, 30 King Street East, Gananoque. You are entitled to be an elector and to run for office if you are not disqualified by any Act or law on voting day and if you are: A resident in the Town of Gananoque, or the owner or tenant of land in the Town of Gananoque, or the spouse of such a person; and A Canadian citizen; and At least 18 years old.

Clerk's Notice of Posting of Preliminary List of Electors, The Municipal Election Act, 1996 as amended, Section 23. Notice is hereby given that the Clerk for Town of Gananoque has complied with Section 23 of the Municipal Elections Act 1996 as amended. The list of persons eligible to vote in the municipality at the municipal elections at the Town offices at 30 King St E., Gananoque, ON, and the list remains there for inspection. And all such electors are called upon to check the list and to take immediate proceedings to have any errors or omissions corrected according to law.
The Last Day for filing applications to add or remove your own name is Monday, October 25th, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. Revisions of the list will be undertaken as follows: Own Name: Tuesday, September 7th to October 22nd during normal office hours and on Election Day, October 25th, 2010 from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM. Removal of Another Person’s Names: Tuesday, September 7th to Thursday, September 9th during normal office hours – and on Nomination Day, September 10th, 2010 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Monday, October 25, 2010, is the date that Gananoque residents go to the polls to elect their Mayor, Councillors and school board Trustees. By voting, you are not only exercising your democratic right, but you are also ensuring your support for those candidates who share your vision for your community and neighbourhood. By voting for a candidate for Mayor and Councillor, you are helping to set the future direction of the Town of Gananoque. The Town provides the day-to-day services you count on - from fire and police services, to clean water and parks, to recreational facilities and the public library. Town Council decides how your property tax dollars are spent and establishes the level and range of municipal services available in your community. Voting for your school board Trustee is also important. Trustees develop and implement recommendations for educational programs, budgets, facilities and property issues, and policies and procedures that govern their Board’s operation. That’s why it’s important to vote. Read the information for voters to find out how you can exercise your right to vote and participate in the 2010 municipal elections. As a candidate for your Town Council or local school board, you will have an opportunity to draw citizens’ attention to certain issues, and to introduce them to your ideas and vision for our town. Election Signs:
By-Law 2005-41 states:
4.1 Notwithstanding Sections 6 to 15 inclusive of this by-law, the following signs shall be permitted for all use categories in the Town of Gananoque and shall be exempted from the requirements of a permit. However, such signs shall comply with the provisions specified herein.
(f) Public election lists, public election signs, and candidate signs subject to the following:
i) No election signs shall exceed a maximum sign area of 5.0 sq.m. except that a commercially available billboard may be used to display an election sign subject to the time restrictions noted below.
ii) Such signs shall not be erected more than six (6) weeks prior to the date of the election and shall be removed within seven days after the election.
iii) No election sign shall be permitted on any road allowances or municipal property under the jurisdiction of the Corporation of the Town of Gananoque.
iv) All signs shall be setback in accordance with this by-law.
v) All signs in contravention of the by-law shall be removed pursuant to the authority set out in the Municipal Act, S.O. 2001, c. 25, paragraph 3 of Section 99. Need more information?
