Preauthorized Payment Plans
A preauthorized payment plan is a method through which property owners can pay their property taxes. This process is very beneficial for the following reasons: • Saves on postage and cheque costs, • No lost, misplaced, or mishandled cheques, • No missed due dates, • Allows for easier personal budgeting, • No standing in lineups, • No service charges or fees apply.
The Town currently has two types of preauthorized payment plans: • Due Date (Instalment) Plan, or • Monthly Plan.
To participate in our preauthorized payment program property taxes must be up-to-date with no outstanding taxes on your property tax account.
Due Date Instalment Program - this program withdraws the payment on the due date of each instalment. Property owners will receive a copy of their bill which will advise them of the amount to be withdrawn on the due date.
The Monthly Plan is drawn on the first business day of each month.
• 12 monthly payments January through December.
• Payments are made by automatic debit to the participant's bank account.
• January through July the payments are based on 1/12 of the previous year's taxes.
• July through December payments are based on the current year's taxes, less the amount paid to date, divided by six (representing six remaining months in the current year). The Town will notify participants of any change in the withdrawal amount seven (7) business days in advance of the withdrawal.
• Only final tax bills will be forwarded to the property owner for receipting purposes. On this program the Town does not send out interim tax bills. Participant should check the bottom of their final tax bill for the changed withdrawal amount.
